Lately, we have been helping people load rental trucks so they can move their household from Denver to another state. Whether you rent a truck from Penske, Budget or Uhaul or some other company there are some things you will need in addition to the truck. 
The most important items are Furniture moving pads and rope. Often people forget that when they are renting a truck it doesn’t come stocked with all the items a full service moving company provides such as the thick quilted furniture moving blankets. These blankets are the protection your furniture needs to stay damage free while bouncing down the road in the back of a truck.
A good way to make sure you have enough blankets to properly protect your furniture is to use the following formula: Count all pieces of furniture you have even if it is small (toy chests, cedar chests, end tables) multiply that number by 2 and then add 12. This typically insures that the mover loading your truck will be able to properly protect the furniture.
The other item is about 50 feet of nylon rope. When the mover loads your truck he will cut this rope into appropriate lengths and “tie down” or “secure” your load to the sides and back of the truck. This prevents shifting which can result in unwanted damage.
